Before you start cutting out too much, reinstall your door and set your gaps. The most important one is the top of the door header to the windshield A-pillar. You may need to use a small hydraulic power pak to achieve this. Once the gaps are set, weld a temporary support from the top of the windshield header to the rear of the cab floor (where the seat belt bolts). This will guarantee your windshield header wont move when you're cutting and welding.
The picture I've enclosed shows how I "pushed" the header back into location using a power pak. I put a bolt into the threaded hole that's already there to give me a solid point to push on.
