The cowl actually comes of really easy. You have to open the hood and doors. Then there's two bolts on each side and 5-10 screws on the top of cowl. You can get a kit that puts a grate under your cowl or just make your own for about 5 bucks. I used gutter screen because I was trying to keep leaves out, it would help with pine needles but something smaller might be better. May sound weird but I think it looks cool. I'll go snag you a pic.

Wow, a pic would be great, thanks! Are the bolts on the inside of the engine bay, where are the screws? On top of the cowl?
