I believe you may have heard right, but M/T tires have been manufactured by a third party for as long as I can remember. This has been in the works for quite some time, and is just coming to market. I think the facility is in Pennsylvania.

The 29.5x10.5 should work fine on a 12" wheel. We stretch the 275 pros onto a 12" wheel all the time, and they seem to prefer the wider wheel. Of course I would default to the manufacturer suggested wheel width until others have shown the wider wheel works with this tire as well.
