Brian has a good point there. The spot welds cut out pretty easy with a spot weld cutter and it makes a lot better all around job of it.
There is a 9-1/4 inch wheelbase difference between the trucks but the difference in the length of the beds is 8-7/8 according to the GM herritage printout for the 53 models which have the best drawings.
You would want to cut the bed sides down pretty close to exact if you are planing on using a precut bed wood kit. A slight length adjustment to center the wheels and get the space between the back of the cab and the front of the bed just right (especially on a frame swap) wouldn't be a big deal if you cut your own wood for the bed.
