Unknown Part

I'll see if anyone here can help out. Hadn't got a response on the Chevytalk forum.

I have eliminated all the smog system stuff, vacuum lines, ESC, etc. on my '85 K10 and replaced the 305 with a 454. I still have the 700R4 transmission, which I installed a 2,000 stall converter.

My question is what are the parts mounted to the firewall that look like spheres with electrical wire hookups and vacuum lines going to them. One is mounted on the passenger side, and the other on the drivers side.

The one on the passenger side I know went to the ESC (think it's called that)in which I removed and even replaced the distributor with a basic HEI.

The one on the driver side still has the electrical connector hooked up to it, but the vacuum lines I removed. Does this part have anything to do with how the transmission shifts or how the torque converter locks up? Is it actually needed since I replaced the original torque converter? If needed, how do I go about hooking up a vacuum line? It looks like there is a hookup on the back side and front side for vacuum lines.

I can't find anything in my manuals regarding this part. If it wasn't needed, I was going to remove it off the firewall also.

Thanks for any information.
