Concur with swamprat. Could you share your VIN and SPID with us? Would like to do some forensics!

TO add to the above:
3/4 ton always 8 lug
1/2 ton was 6 lug til 71, then it became 5 lug.

Some folks like converting a 1/2 ton 6 lug to 1/2 ton 5 lug for wheel availability and disk swaps.

Big question is this: what wheels do you want to run?

If stock steelies, I stick with 6 lug config, butyouse 71+ K15/K10 wheels so they clear factory disk brake setups.

If aftermarket, then all bets are off. But you're in a unique position, you can go wither direction, 5 or 6, for about the same cost. All up to you and desired wheel arrangement.

Or, nothing wrong with staying 8 lug!
