Skepticism is a good thing when buying an "original" vehicle that is collectable.
That said, our local GMC dealership, owned by my grandfather for 40+ years, got an S10 Jimmy in with a Chevy Blazer tailgate. Colors were correct and everything, it just said Chevy on it instead of GMC, and that was only on the tailgate. Rest of the badges etc were GMC.
Dad's 1985 Jeep Scrambler came with an export-only oil pressure gauge measured in bar instead of PSI. Bought new in late 84.
Point being, people make mistakes, especially UAW workers on Friday afternoon. I'd look for a tach wire as mentioned to see if you can explain that one. The GMC vs Chevy doesn't surprise me and wouldn't worry me.
