I have come across broken spring plates with square u bolts a couple times. It seems if they are not torqued evenly in increments, they snap. Or maby they get hit by rocks. Also they fill up with mud, water, salt, etc and promote rust. So whenever i can, i convert to round u bolts. Better ground clearance, you can leave the bolts a little long in case you want to add to the spring pack.
