Iv got a 4" aluminum one piece in my stock height long bed. I probably could of gotten away without trimming anything but it was a little to close for my comfort. If I remember, I was worried about my axle dropping to low (I drive thru a lot of fields and I always seem to be able to find every sink hole) and the drive shaft hitting the bottom of the crossmember.
I thought about putting limiting straps on the rear end but I ended up cutting about an inch all the way around.
