I read a study years and years ago about Ram-air verse cowl induction. The gist of the study is that the main advantage to both systems is cooler air charge. Ram-air has the disadvantage of water (rain) ingestion issues. However, Ram-air is distinctly advantageous (air pressure) above 140 mph.
So, what does this ultimately mean for us with old trucks? Very few of us spend the time fabricating a functional system so go with the one you like the looks of best. Just make sure you are not forcing water into the engine. Also, how many of us have a truck that will exceed 140mph safely and how often does that happen?
In the end, go with the one that YOU think looks best on YOUR truck
