Where I live it's like that already,and good luck even finding a short bed. I've only seen one or two on the road in my city in decades. 5000 here buys you a truck that will run and drive but needs just about everything fixed.
2500 buys you a rotted field truck thats either been sitting years or a forgotten project where half the parts are missing or of no use. And these are longbed prices remember. Back in the late 80s and early 90s these trucks were 400-1200 all day long and were drivers right out of gate.
You states side guys should browse some Canadian classifieds and you'll feel a whole lot better about the prices you face lol.
