Grumpy really is on to something about being this far and having them provide you with a complete long block. I do understand that you want to do it yourself also. Perhaps see if they will let you assist with the reassembly of the crank and heads. Even if they didn't cut the price, You would learn SOOOO much from such an experience and you know it would be done in a clean environment and done right. The sequence of tightening the bolts, the proper tourque specs and honestly, the correct way to use a torque wrench are all very critical when putting it back together. It's probably a long shot that they'd even let you 'assist' or watch, but who knows. Depending on the shop and what kind of connections you've been making with them, you might even get one of the guys to come over and give you a hand if they won't let you 'assist' at their place.
