I wire wheeled most of it out and also used a screw driver/hammer combo for some chunks.

The guy at the paint store told me a few ways of using the self leveling stuff...he said for vertical stuff you can lay it down on wax paper and peel it off before you stick it on...didnt try it but i think it could work. I ended up doing my vertical seals with the self leveling...i just masked really good...laid it out really carefully...smoothed it with my finger, and then removed the tape before it dried so the edges could smooth out. Everything around my rear hatch turned out really good. Good thing at 50 bucks a tube!
