Those images look like "fauxtina" to me the areas that aren't body color look like sanded through basecoat which is then cleared over however
I have seen guys use CLR on a rag to stop major rust through in areas it will take away some of your surface rust that you have though
In my opinion if after 40 years it hasen't majorly rusted through it likely wont for another 40 if not left to sit in the weeds
