Re: Cracked windshield 71

Just went thru this on my 72. There evidently are two types of windshields for these models. Green tint with a sun band and green with no sun band. I chose the no sun band after not being able to find a clear one ANYWHERE. Took it to a shop that has done my glasswork for 30 years and the young man broke the new windshield installing it. I drove it broken for a few short trips and then I requested the owner come out of retirement and do it himself. The second time went smoothly and the green tint is not really an issue. Bottom line is find an old school installer if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, I'm not. There are a few tricks some of the mobile glass installers people in our area evidently are not taught. Mine came at a total cost of $280.16 . They ate a windshield and an extra gasket. Better them than me. Good luck to you.
