Take the shifter out and look down into the trans..see if the trans is in neutral..there are notches for the shifter in the top of the shifter forks.all 3 should be centered and inline.if not take a large screwdriver and stick it in there and manually move all the forks to neutral(center). Then reinstall shifter being careful not to knock it back in gear..see if that works.
