PhilaTruck, your truck is a later vintage than his. It's not the same. These earlier 3 speed trucks don't even have a crossmember under the tail end of the tranny like your truck does. The crossmember is several feet further forward, located underneath the bellhousing. The trans just hangs off of the bellhousing, out in the middle of the air.

As far as the question goes, it really depends on the header itself. I have used Hooker Comps on a small block and 3 speed and it worked well. I did have to install the header first and then slip the z bar through the header tubes afterward, but once in place, it worked perfectly.

Also, the Hooker headers nestled perfectly in underneath the crossmember without hitting anything. It was completely painless. I can only vouch for Hooker though, depending on which brand you have, your results may vary.
