you can build a 454 ci small block with out needing alot of one off parts. the next motor i plan to build will be a 400 sbc bored and stroked to around 454 ci using an aftermarket dart block with splayed 4 bolt mains. the cam is still in the standard location with this way and it accepts all standard sbc parts. of course his will be after i get a degree and a good job waaaaay in the future
i had read some where that going more than around 450 cubes with a small block is not very advantageous because the external deminsions of a small block head will just not allow for the heads to have large enough ports to flow the needed air
