I believe you can get black zinc as well as black phosphate, and then there is Parkerizing. The last batch of black stuff (linked above) was Parkerized by a company that did a lot of gun barrel work in MT. Try calling Kehr plating here in ABQ http://www.kaehr.com/ to discuss the differences and cost. They do good work (did my clear zinc pieces). I don't want to tell you something that is incorrect.
