Re: LS VVT with non electric trans?

Interested in this thread as well, I will be soon be putting an L96 with VVT in front of my SM465 4-speed in my 72 Blazer rock crawler.

I really would like to just keep the VVT active (my tuner says he will disable the DOD, in the tune). This engine will have PLENTY of power for my application, and I have no interest in swapping the cam, deleting VVT...This engine is fresh out of a wrecked 2015 van, with 40K miles on it.

I will use the E38 ECM.

Question I have is, does the ECM need to receive a VSS signal, for any reason, including the VVT functionality?

And if it does in fact need it, what is the best way to get a VSS signal to the ECM, when running an old-school manual transmission, as I am doing?

I already have an autometer speedo with GPS in the truck, so, I don't need the VSS for operating a speedometer, but I am wondering if the ECM really needs a VSS signal?
