Re: LS Swap parts laundry list
Just finishing my '65 Step Side as seen in previous crappy photos. We have started the engine but waiting on Classic Air and exhaust to run it.
2 owner, rust free truck, 6cyl, 3 speed, no options. Now has 2001 5.3 with 4l60, power steering, brakes, digital gauges, and will have a/c. Started with a nice truck so I did remove the bed and body from the frame, restored the suspension and brakes. Takes a little more time but a nice clean job and easier to work around which saved time in the long run.
CPP engine mounts and cross member. Set engine and transmission in cradle, found best location based on factory holes. Had to drill additional holes. Mount cross member on transmission and drill holes in frame. Shorten drive shaft based on measurements.
I used the computer and fuse box from the 2001 Suburban donor vehicle. I did not wire it myself but found a local guy that can do it. We found the best, stock looking location to mount the electronics. He also wired the Teletronics digital gauges. We used their sending units with Autometer adapters. This project is for my wonderful spouse so it has to start quickly, run, drive smooth, and have cold a/c. Looks cool too.
2010 Camaro SS manifolds found on Craigslist $25.
Late model C10 power steering box from NAPA
Stock donor LS p/s pump with donor hoses
Capt Fab brake booster mount with generic power booster from NPD
1970 Buick Roadmaster master cylinder for drum/drum set up. NAPA.
Tilt column from Chevy van modified to fit.
1965 gas pedal fitted to 5.3 drive by cable.
Lokar shift linkage for 4L60
Radiators 4 Less in Ga. Give them the application, they have what you need.
Home made air intake
This was my first LS swap and would not hesitate to do it again. Once I removed the engine and cross member it was a simple drive train swap. I am sure you are full of questions as I was before diving into this project. Send me a PM and we can discuss the details by phone, and there are details, once you get into it, it becomes clearer.
Also, once I stop using my cell phone to take pictures it would be even better.
