I built a front bumper for a Jeep buddy using a large piece of pipe (and several smaller ones). I welded caps on the end of the large piece, and he drilled and tapped a air fitting quick-connect so he could use it as a air tank. Might be something you might consider for your armegeddon rear bumper! Don't really know what would happen in a collision though.....
