I could be wrong but I think the fuel pressure is regulated in the gas tank. The little device that sits on the fuel rail is some sort of buffer not a fuel pressure regulator. On the 2001 engines did they have one line running up to the fuel rail?

If there is a return line from the fuel rail , the regulator is in it , the rail that is . Newer models without the return [returnless] can use the corvette filter/regulator almost all of us do , great info on ls1tech.com in the conversions and hybrids section
