So, if you had a jack under the LCA... and you were beating on it... how did you expect the ball joint to pop free??
On the other side, support the truck's frame with jack stands and place a jack under the LCA, but leave a gap. Remove the shock from the LCA. Remove the sway bar if it has one. Remove cotter pin and only loosen the lower ball joint nut +/-1/4" Hit the LCA next to the ball joint until it pops free. When it pops loosen the nut +/-1/4" again and pop it again (if it doesn't move on its own.) Usually by the 2nd time it's "free". You can then place the jack snugly under the LCA, remove the lower ball joint nut and slowly lower the spring out.
