It would be slightly more difficult (though not impossible by any stretch) to design something like modern cars, that would leave the lights on for an additional 30 seconds or so if you turn them off after you turn off your ignition.
Late 70's and early 80's Caddies had this feature plus they had a really cool headlight chime that sounded like something out of an elevator or hospital. Trouble is, they're a little GM box with multiple inputs that don't easily relegate them to retrofitting into alternate platforms
