when I still had an in cab tank, I had the same gas smell. plus when I filled the tank, it all ways spilled over & ran down the side of the cab. On the filler neck there is a small hose for a vent. I put a "t" fitting into that & ran a hose thru the floor into a charcoal canister mounted on the frame rail. didn't have any more gas smell after that.
