Oldgoalie pretty much covered it.
1. Check the lengths, as noted above there are 2 glide lengths, one is pretty much plug and play and the other not so much.
2. Usually the trans cross member can be easily relocated. Sometimes there are even holes that line up! Just make sure the trans mount is not bound up.
3. The shifter usually can be tweaked to work, sort of. At least you can usually get P-R-N-OD. Usually it will not get L. You can play with it and make your own linkage or just buy the kit.
4. With a 283, depending on the cam, think about a higher than stock converter stall.
