if you decide to use cable you could get a hydraulic shop to press on the ends and it would look pro. phone around first but a lot of those hose shops also make custom brake flex lines with stainless outers (I had some custom built for my motorcycle) and they also make winch cables and park brake cables so they would likely have the tools and supplies to fab up the ends. also, maybe a set of tailgate cables from a newer truck could be fitted, they already have the ends and are coated.
