I used to feel the same way, but I've realized everyone batches about Millenials being lazy, but I've realized more and more the older generation (including myself) assumes the worst and pushes them off to the side. It sounds like no dad in the picture? Now could be a great time to teach them some skills they could use to be better young men. Just thinking out loud...

I built this giant by myself in about 7 weekends. 16'x24'. That included ripping out the old one and doing some serious repair work to the sill plate. I had to pull it out, install a new one, and properly flash it this time, as there was nothing there previously. Rained slowed me up a bit and this deck is WAY overbuilt.
