Re: Bought my first classic Chevy truck... I think?
Resurrecting this old thread. I have been enjoying the truck for the past year and a half as-is. Never had any issues with registration here in FL or renewals. Title title VIN matches the Door tag VIN. But the truck is titled as a 1969 Chevy C10, but the VIN corresponds with a '71 GMC Truck. It didn't even raise a flag for the DMV. They came out and inspected the door tag and sent me on my way with some nice new antique plates. Been driving it almost every day since with a smile on my face.
So here's why I'm resurrecting this thread: I'm going to be selling the truck soon. Need to know how to proceed with potential buyers. Honesty is my MO always and forever. A recent Chevy guy here in FL suggested that I try and register the truck with the FRAME VIN (which he swears supersedes the door tag VIN if the cab has been replaced), and then have a VIN plate repro stamped onto the cab.
Thoughts on this? Even thought it would be authenticating the trucks VIN back to its true # I don't want to have any issues for myself or the buyer. Removing a truck vin tag seems, well, greasy.
Am I thinking about this wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help.
