Personally I wouldn't go with a one wire deal. They don't charge onless you rev the engine and if you get a screwwy pully ration you can have to rev it pretty high. That could kill the bettery if the wife or anyone else driving the vehicle don't get it to that magic RPM.
Plus replacements can have your rig parked for a week or so.
I would just go get an alt for a 77 c-10 with A/C. That'll get you a hefty alt with plenty of power. Then all you have to do is splice in the correct pigtail, and then at the regulator you just jump a couple wires and all is good.
There is also a plug in kit for the swap...but I couldn't tell you where to get it at.
