I am not sure on the leaf to coil deal, it has been said on here that it can be done, and it has been said that the frames are not the same.
However, if the frame is rusted, chances are the trailing arms are total junk too. Looking at your geographical location makes me think even more that the arms are rusted out.
At the minimum, it is something to look at on the 2 wheel drive truck.
