Yes a 283 originally came with a single 2" exhaust. I'm not sure why you would want to restrict your engine like that. I would just replace both of your mufflers with something to meet your sound requirement. And if the tail pipes do not go all the way to the rear of the truck, extend them so that they do. That will help reduce the noise in the cab.
