Drop a new HEI unit into it ....the old dissy is most likely really worn internally...replace the resistor wire in the loom to get 12v at HEI coil...
BTW...flat cam lobe would not give you sloppy timing variances...
what oil are you running in this engine...? Does it have a zinc component in it?
