There is your fix. On the earlier small blocks, these 4 holes are directly above pushrods for cylinder #'s 3, 4, 5 and 6. Can't remember which cylinder's push rods are below which holes though, I think all exhaust IIRC. Anyhow, one more thing NOT to do is to use a bolt that is too long, as it will either rub the push rod, or worse yet, break it.
