If you look at the cross member it is something like 4" thick.

You can take 1.5" out of it, and bolt it back up to your frame. Then you have to flip your tie rods. Viola. A 1.5" drop with no loss of suspension travel.

When I first pancaked a cross member. I did a double pancake if you will. I lowered the frame mounting 1.5", and then thinned out the rest of the cross member. So I could Z the frame with out having to cut into the trans tunnel. In the end I had something like 4 inches of drop for about $50, and 16 hours of work.
