It's "trick" - but it's showy for the sake of being showy. Not that that is all bad but if it gets in the way of using your truck the way you want - unloading a bed full of stuff to gas up, then I think it isn't well thought out.

A lot of cool ideas well carried out in this thread. Better than mine, frankly. I like Mark's (Black Sheep) but I don't know how he managed to locate where to drill his board SO exactly?! My Tanks, Inc. "special" tank supposedly made for our TF trucks had the filler come up exactly where one of my bed strips fell. I had to seal it and weld in a new location - ugh!

My personal favorite is still JJ's. His is just a recessed gas cap in a stainless kitchen sink drain escutcheon (I think). It's simple, it saves the wood finish from spilled gas, and just looks clean to me.
