so now that you are thinking of changing both axles, what gear ratio do you want? Half ton trucks commonly had 3.07, 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56 gears. You probably have 4.10's or 4.56's if the stock engine was a 6 cylinder. 3.42 and 3.54 gear ratios are also available in newer models. You should be able to pull any dana 44 axle from 1971 and up until the 10 bolt became the GM front axle of choice. With a little work any 12 bolt rear axle will work when you change that one out.
