Here in Washington all you have to do is write up on a piece of paper the date and how much you sold it for. Something like:
I, joe schmow, sold a 1969 c-10 chevrolet pickup to, Clyde Barker for $1500.00. on this day June 6th 2004.
Then you sign it and the buyer signs it. He takes that piece of paper into the department of licensing.
I didn't get one from the guy that sold us our blazer, so I wrote up my own- and signed it and tole the lady at the DMV that it was a parts truck and that I only paid $500 for it. Saved me some $$ when I put the title in my name.
