Leave the one piece shaft in, most get rid of the two piece due to the weak carrier bearings. Just replace the cross member to a dropped one and you will be in good shape. I had a long bed and shortened it to a stepside. I got rid of the two piece because they are junk. Ordered a dropped crossmember from CPP and had a one piece shaft made with a slip. I have never had a problem in over 5 years of doing that. Trust me you will never be happy with a two piece.
