my creative/resourceful side got the better of me. i found a piece of polished aluminum diamond plate that was intended for the tailgate of my 65 ElCamino, but never made it there. i cut a 9 x 12 piece and contoured it to fit the flat spots on the firewall and cover all of the unneeded holes. then i got inside the cab, traced the outline of the hole where the heater core tubes come out, then removed the plate, and installed the inside heater box. i then measured where the tubes come out, reversed the measurements and cut holes out of the plate. a good bead of silicone around the whole mess, and bolted/screwed it in place to cure. its not the prettiest, but neither is the whole truck, so im not worried about it in the least.
