for installing something other than a radio, it would seem that a delete plate would be the best place to start without requiring metal work and paint.. smooth flat canvas to design your own panel mount gauges, switches, clock, etc..
I found this butchery in my blue burb.. but I opted for the aluminum adapter from brother's to clean it up for a radio..
