Thats why i'm putting my 85 K10 shortbed back down on stock springs because I use it a lot to tow stuff, even a whole samurai and I don't want issues while towing it.
Do you have a actual hitch or just a bumper? I would invest in a real hitch personally and you can get a big drop ball mount to whatever height you need for the trailer to sit normal.
