Yes 4x4s use the back set of holes as well i have seen a few trucks with a 396 in the 4x4 stock location

V8 and 250 six bangers use the same stands the 292 use an offset set of stands on one side

I am planing on my build of my 68 using the back holes with my 350 as i am also changing transmissions and will need to shorten my drive shaft any way

V8 and 250 I6 stands are different, as shown in the pictures in this thread.
