From driving a 67, 70 and the 71 NEVER TOP THE TANK OFF, I am from those day that it wasn't full until it was full but when the nozzle kicks off that is it, you don't round it up or top it off.
My 71 doesn't have a seat tank now it has a 30 gallon stainless tank in the front of the bed that is just as much of a pain with it's rather short filler neck. It's hard to get the "just right" amount of gas in it when you fill it.
