I have to go along with them, it would be a far bigger fight to do it with the fender on than remove the fender in the first place.

You do have to remove the latch panel to reach the screws behind the grill and remove the fender to body bolts but you have to take all the rest out to get the inner fender out anyhow.

The fender will come off without removing the grill completely. I did it on my 48 when it got wrecked in the 70's.
