Let me put it this way, if you filled my bed up with golf balls, they would fall out all around the wheelhouses which are no longer attached to the planks. In fact, the flange on the wheel houses is totally gone - big gaps you can stick your hands thru!
Obviously, a bed liner would solve this problem!
I was at SEMA and PRI and there are spray on bed liners that are 1/4" thick. I wouldn't think these liners would care whether they stuck to anything or not. Of course, if there is not a good bond, water inevitably gets in that gap and you have massive rust out.
I suppose I could put an 8' bed liner in and just have a 6" "storage compartment" in from of the liner. Or I could just make a 6" spacer out of 2x4's and put a nice top finish on it and just give up the extra 6" of cargo capacity. I don't really need that extra 6" the way I use this truck - I wish I didn't have a Longhorn!!!
