You probably had the 3 speed/dana 20 transfer case, which would explain why it was a different length. As for the Rockwell, the one that was in my truck served me well for 1 year. However, one of my output seals went bad and a slow drip started. I guess it grew overnight, and one day as I was driving it, it started to clank really bad. Took it out and discovered that all the bearings were shot, there were some balls floating around in the gear oil and the oil itself was a silver color from metalflakes. Also, the coupler sleeve between the tranny and transfer was almost completely worn smooth inside, and the tranny's rear output is toast.
I am still undergoing the everlasting NP205 swap now, i had to move the crossmember back about that length to make it fit.
