I came across a bunch of those and even more of the little coin folder things that were to be turned in to get war bonds, when going through my grandmother's stuff with my dad after she passed.
I spent quite a bit of time with her in her later years, she lived to be 94. I learned all kinds of things about the everyday life of a person who when through so many things. She was a child during WW1, married and bought her only house not long after the depression, had my dad just before WW2. Living in this house, she initially had an "ice man" who delivered with a horse and buggy and was here to see a man land on the moon, all the way to cell phones.
But I never knew about the war bond books. I would have asked her why she never did anything with them. Maybe she did? with others that are obviously not around any more. The ones that were here were in various stages of being filled up. If that program ended before she could turn them in, why not do something else with them? All of those 30s coins were really cool though. They hadn't seen the light of day since who knows when, just in a closet in the basement....probably before I was born. (18 years after WW2)

The great thing about being a pessimist is that you are either pleasantly surprised or right.
