What you have is an Eaton rear end. These were fairly common on Chevrolets throughout the sixties up until 70-72, I can't remember. They were replaced with a corporate 14 bolt in the early seventies. The Eaton has a round cover on the back and the pig will unbolt out of the front of the housing. It is also common for them to have locking differentials from the factory, if that sort of thing rows your boat. The three I own have 4.11 and 4.56 gears. Does anyone know if 3.73's were available?
